Resentment of the Day: Applebee’s Fires Waitress After Her Receipt Post Goes Viral on Reddit

After an Applebee’s waitress’s picture of a receipt with a stiffed tip and an ill-placed complaint went viral earlier this week, the customer who refused to tip the waitress called the restaurant and got her fired. Now angry people on Twitter and Facebook are calling for a boycott of the restaurant chain.

Meanwhile in Germany of the Day: Technoviking Sues the Video Maker Thirteen Years Later

The true identity of the alpha male legend Technoviking may come to light soon, as the ongoing lawsuit against Matthias Fritsch, the artist who shot the video footage at a street techno party in Berlin thirteen years ago, is expected to come to an end soon. According to the Daily Dot, Fritsch is being accused by the plaintiff for “creation and publication of images connected to the Technoviking” and if he loses the case, Fritsch could face a €250,000 ($334,441 U.S.) fine and up to six months in jail.

Dear Ann Romney,

I saw your speech the other night. Thanks for talking to me from the heart, because you pretty much confirmed what I already knew to be true, which is that you’re the type of lady with hand sanitizer coursing through her veins.

I’ve known wealthy, astringent women like you all my life. I grew up around them. Not with them. Around them.

My mother always looked up to women like you. She respects you, and she wants to be more like you. Like the Oscar de la Renta you wore for the speech, you are an aspirational brand for women like my mom. That’s fine. I understand why she thinks that way, and, like Laura Bush before you, my mom is entitled to her heroes.

That’s not to say I don’t respect you. I certainly do. I know how hard it is to maintain that level of poise, and I’m familiar with the pathological dedication it takes to keep up appearances. Women like you are a special breed, and like all your fancy prancing horses, I know how incredibly difficult it is to make it look so easy. (By the way, can we just take a moment and savor the delicious irony of a politician’s wife who competes in dressage? Mmm. That’s some Tom Wolfe-level stuff, right there.)

For the record, I’m not going to vote for your husband. Don’t worry, though. My mother definitely will, and if your husband happens to win, I have no doubt that you’d make an excellent First Lady. You were born for that kind of thing. You’d rock the East Wing Jackie style with a Republican twist, and I’m sure you’d pick one helluva china pattern.

Whichever way it goes in November, you’re destined to continue living a fine life filled with philanthropy and politics. You’ll always be important to some circle, and I’m happy for you. Speaking for the rest of us, though — and this is coming from my heart — stop using your money and influence to chip away at women’s reproductive rights.

That great collective sigh you’re hearing from the women whom you profess to “love” so much isn’t because we had a rough day. It’s because we don’t appreciate the hypocrisy of someone like you kissing our asses on national television while quietly working against us.

Please feel free to do whatever you like with the window dressing, but don’t spend another second advocating against a woman’s choice. At a certain point, that kind of thing is really unforgivable.

More troops than ever are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, according to Pentagon statistics provided to The Daily. But military officials say the spike is an encouraging sign that more soldiers are getting help.

“We’ve seen great efforts from the Army to encourage soldiers to really step up and come forward with their problems,” Dr. Chris Warner, the Army’s psychiatric consultant to the surgeon general, told The Daily…

Army personnel saw the most diagnoses, with almost 2,500. Marines, at 510, had the second most. “It’s the soldiers and the Marines who are on the ground, doing the patrols,” Warner said. “They’re out on the streets, so they’re at much greater risk for exposure.”

Interruption of the Day: Concert organizers at London’s Hyde Park didn’t take too kindly to Bruce Springsteen’s epic curfew-breaking set Saturday night. The E Street Band kept rocking past the 10 pm cut-off, eventually inviting Paul McCartney on stage, much to the delight of 80,000 in attendance. But at 10:30, in the middle of “Twist And Shout”, the mics were silenced. The abrupt ending didn’t sit too well with Steven Van Zandt, who took to Twitter shortly after:

I’m sorry but I have to be honest I’m pissed. Like I said, it didn’t ruin the great night. But when I’m jamming with McCartney don’t bug me!

Ryan Sullivan, an employee at a Honeywell plant in Minnesota, got the chance to introduce Barack Obama Friday, which led to his fifth-grade son, Tyler, missing school.
